Hi, I’m organizing and lifestyle expert Lorie Marrero, creator of the Clutter Diet, and I want to talk today about shortcuts. You know I’ve been in this industry of organizing and productivity for 16 years now, and people look to me for tips and shortcuts all the time, and particularly hacks. People love that word hack, they want kitchen hacks, and life hacks, and you know what? I’ve got to say I have a pet peeve about the word hack. Hacking is for coconuts and criminals who break into computers, and it sounds like someone with a bad cough, or someone who’s a bad comedian or something. All the connotations of the word hack are just so negative to me. I don’t want to hack my life, and you know shortcuts are not always the best way either.

You can save a lot of time going through a fast food drive through window more than you can save time going to a farmer’s market, but I think we would all agree that the best way for your health, for the return on investment for your time is to go to the farmer’s market and to feed yourself and your family the better way. Also we can do a crash diet, we can get really fast results and that’s kind of a shortcut, but then we mess up our metabolism and gain the weight back. We can stay up really late and we can cram for a test, and then we won’t remember that information long term, and our performance and our health will suffer when we lose sleep. I want us to think about what I’m going to call smart steps.

I’d like you to share your smart steps here in the comments. What I mean by that is not necessarily the shortcut, but the best way to do things. It might be that you’re looking for the smart path towards something more healthy, so if you are going to the farmer’s market what are the tips and tricks about going to the farmer’s market that are helpful. Let’s share those things that are the most helpful for your health, for the planet, for our children. All of those things might save time upfront, but it might also bring better benefits later, so I want to share smart steps with you here on this channel. Also on our Facebook page and Instagram, you can go to LorieFacebook.com, or LorieInstagram.com. You can find my pages really easily that way, we just made those shortcut URLs for you, but I’m going to be publishing smart steps here and you can share them here in the comment. We love to hear from you. We’ll see you next time, and may you always be happy and grateful for having more than enough.
