De-Cluttering and Donating Really Does Make You a Winner!

We all know that de-cluttering helps us gain time, become more focused, and gives us more control over our lives. And donating that clutter helps Goodwill support their education, training and job-readiness programs. But did you know it could also make you a real winner?

It can! At the recent 2015 Delegate Assembly, held on June 21 in San Diego, CA, we were thrilled when Lorie Marrero, Goodwill Central Texas Advisory Board Member, won the Elsine Katz Volunteer Leader of the Year Award! Read on, and youll see why she was such a deserving recipient:

Lorie Marrero is a Certified Professional Organizer. and wrote the book on it  The Clutter Diet.: The Skinny on Organizing Your Home and Taking Control of Your Life. For the past five years, Lorie has leveraged her influence as a best-selling author, blogger and organization expert to further Goodwills mission. As a spokesperson for Goodwill, shes used her radio and television appearances, PSAs, blogs, social media and other platforms to demonstrate how donations to Goodwill translate into critical programs and services in communities across North America. In 2010, Lories Donate Movement PSA was the most-watched video on Goodwills YouTube channel.

As a champion for Goodwill, Lorie orchestrated a four-part series in Womens Day Magazine about de-cluttering various clients homes, and incorporated Goodwill messaging in the series, reaching millions of readers. Her YouTube channel prominently features Goodwill clothing and messaging in every video, now surpassing over 2 million views.

Lorie says, It is my honor to show people the connection between donating…and improving their community and the planet. I cant imagine a better partnership for what I do!

Aside from Central Texas, Goodwill agencies across the country have benefited from Lories expertise. She helped launch the Goodwill Loves Moms loyalty rewards program at Goodwill Industries of Michiana (South Bend, IN), which currently has more than 10,000 registered members. During a visit to Goodwill Industries of the Valleys (Roanoke, VA), she pitched a fundraising model that helped them raise more than $125,000 within the first year.

All the delegates were, too  including our own Gerald Davis, CEO and President and Traci Berry, Senior Vice President of Community Engagement and Education  applauding Lorie as she accepted the award. About the award: The Elsine Katz Volunteer Leader of the Year Award is given to a local Goodwill volunteer in recognition of outstanding leadership and service to a member of Goodwill. It is named in honor of the late Mrs. Elsine Katz, a past president of Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services, at Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee (Nashville), who endowed the award.
