Austin author Lorie Marrero was chosen to act as the national ambassador for a new Goodwill Industries donation drive.
Marrero, who wrote the book The Clutter Diet: The Skinny on Organizing Your Home and Taking Control of Your Life, was chosen to speak at a launch event for “the Donate Movement!” She will also complete a nationwide radio media tour and is appearing in a series of commercials promoting the initiative.
The effort seeks to increase community donations to Goodwill, which provides job training and low-cost goods to those in need. Marrero also touts the environmental and personal benefits of “de-cluttering.”
“Get organized, get that stagnant stuff out of your house, and use it to put people to work and build strong families and communities,” she said on her blog.
Goodwill is based in Maryland and has 166 autonomous member agencies, including Goodwill Industries of Central Texas.
Marrero has acted previously as a spokesperson for Microsoft Corp., Brother Label Makers and FedEx Office. She has also appeared on CNBC, Good Housekeeping, WGN News and Woman’s Day.
