About the Clutter Diet

How can you help people get organized online?

We know that many people either cannot afford an organizer in person, or they are wanting to do a lot of the work themselves but just need a little support and advice. We have a team of experienced professional organizers who interact with our members seven days a week in our online consulting area for unlimited help. You can even upload photos to accompany your questions. We provide this access, along with our exclusive weekly “menu” plan of projects designed to cover your entire home over a year's time! You also get easy multimedia tutorials, hundreds of videos, tips and articles, and printable checklists and workbooks.

I can find organizing tips and articles everywhere. How is this different?

We offer our members unlimited access to direct, personal advice from a team of experienced professional organizers. It's certainly not difficult to find organizing articles and tips, but there is a reason you're still not getting your projects done and are feeling stressed about your home... Getting organized (or any personal change effort) requires three things: EDUCATION (how to do it), MOTIVATION (why you want to get it done), and SUPPORT (objectivity, accountability, and expertise to get you unstuck and back on track). SUPPORT is the missing link most people forget, and we provide that. Read more about our program here, or click here to get started now! Lorie will walk you through the first week with our 7-Day Quickstart series.
You've tried other things before, on your own-- what will you do differently THIS time? Give us a try! We've helped thousands of people in eighteen countries around the world for ten years, and we'd love to help YOU too.

Will I lose weight on the Clutter Diet?

Maybe, but probably only “Clutter-Pounds®!” We have fun with the metaphor of "getting your house in shape" and have modeled our organizing program on the best of what works in the weight loss industry. We are not actually a weight loss diet.  However, some people find that weight loss is a side benefit of getting organized, since they are planning their meals and snacks, have an orderly kitchen to cook in, and have more time to exercise!

What does weight loss have to do with organizing?

Plenty!  The bottom line is that they are both about personal change. Here are three of the biggest parallels:

3 Reasons Why Getting Organized is Like Losing Weight
  1. Crash dieting doesn’t work, and neither does “crash organizing.”  It’s great if you tackle a few huge projects one weekend and get some areas really organized, but unless you change the habits that got you disorganized in the first place, you will soon find the space a mess again.  Both weight loss and organization require permanent changes in your habits and routines.
  2. “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.”  The basic idea to lose weight is to eat less and move more.  Clutter must be managed by preventing bringing it into the home whenever possible and by regularly processing your items and getting rid of what is not needed. Both weight loss and organization require a program of prevention, reduction, and regular maintenance.
  3. Getting in shape can improve confidence. When you are disorganized, you feel out of control. You feel you can’t have friends over, and you may get embarrassed by not showing up on time to appointments or keeping your promises to others. Both weight loss and organization can reduce stress and increase confidence.

Does everyone get the same plan each week?

Yes, all members receive the same weekly “diet” plan of projects. Our plan is tailored for families in North America, with seasonal needs taken into account and major holidays assumed.  Our program is designed to cover your entire home over time, and then some! Our member community is all focusing on the same things at the same time, which enables a greater sense of support and more opportunities for helping each other succeed at the task at hand.

If I skip a week or two, how will I get access to the plans I have missed?

Members have access to the last few weeks’ plans. If you miss more, just pick up where you are and get started again - no problem! We emphasize looking forward, not looking back with guilt, so don’t worry if you go on vacation or miss a week here or there.

I am not receiving e-mails from you after I signed up!

Our system has a couple of different databases that "talk to" each other and "shake hands" when you register for the first time.  It may take up to five minutes for the first emails to be received in your inbox. Please wait a few minutes and check again. You should receive one email with your login information, and another email with "DAY ONE" of your 7-Day Quickstart.
Since there are a lot of bulk e-mails sent out about weight loss pills and the like, and we often use words like "diet" and "pounds," some e-mail filtering settings can perceive our messages as spam. Please set your e-mail filters to accept anything from the domain "clutterdiet.com."

I am having trouble logging in as a member.

First check to see if you could have typed the password incorrectly, or if you may be typing in the wrong password or email address for this site.

Our site has required a username to login in the past, but now it requires an email address in combination with your password. If you are typing in your username, it will not work. The username now is used only to post in the message boards, to protect your anonymity.

If you have forgotten your password or just want to confirm it, you can use the “Forgot your password?” feature in the login area to get it automatically sent to your e-mail address.

If you don’t receive the password reminder e-mail when requested, do check your spam folder to see if it was filtered out.  Also, make sure you’ve provided the e-mail address you used when signing up for our program—many people have multiple e-mail addresses.
